What does it mean to be Proudly South African? (Because we are 🙂 )
Like a pup searching for its squeaky toy, the term “Proudly South African” is seen here, there and everywhere. But did you know that in order to be allowed to apply the term “Proudly South African” to your brand, your company must meet specific criteria?
To become Proudly South African member and to be approved to carry the ProudlySA logo, a company must undergo auditing. The logo is super-important as it signals to consumers that the brands they choose to support are local and lekker.
The ProudlySA logo also serves as proof that due diligence has been conducted and that the customer can be assured products or services meet local content thresholds and quality standards.
So, just what are the Proudly South African criteria?
LOCAL CONTENT
Local content implies that at least 50% of the cost of production must be incurred in South Africa. In addition, any imported material must undergo “substantial transformation” before it can be considered to be “locally made”.
HIGH QUALITY / SERVICES
The product or service must be certified by an appropriate accreditation organisation or undergo ISO accreditation in order to validate being of high quality.
FAIR LABOUR PRACTICE
A Proudly South African company must adhere to fair labour practices and make sure that they comply with the current labour legislation.
ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS
A Proudly SA company must comply with production processes that are environmentally friendly. This encompasses stipulations relating to recycling methods, waste management, carbon footprint reduction, etc. A Proudly SA brand is also required to adhere to local environmental legislature.
As a Proudly SA brand, Wagworld is honoured to stand alongside other local brands who share our ethos and love for our country. By procuring and producing as much as we can using local supply chains, we know we’re contributing to the greater South African economy, to the environment, to business excellence, and to local employment.
